Graphic, Visual and Design Arts

The Academy of Design at Comeaux High School offers specialized training for students interested in applied visual arts.

The subjects explored in the classes include:

Design Applications: Interior Design; Architectural Design; Advertising Design; Fashion Design; Web Design

Applied Visual Arts: Animation; Illustration; Photography; Sculpture; Art History

The Academy also has a Bench Jewelry Design facility where students learn the skills needed to enter the workforce as a bench jeweler. Jewelry skills include sawing, filing, polishing, wire work, bead work and design, wax models and lost wax casting methods, computer design and stone setting.

A Computer-Aided Drafting lab already is in place, and a design lab outfitted with industry-standard Macintosh computers also is on line.

Students in the Academy take their other classes as a cohort, meaning they take math, English and science together as a group. The teachers of these other subjects are working as a team with design instructors to integrate design applications across the curriculum.
