Our newest School of Choice academy is the Biomedical Academy at Carencro Middle School, which is also the location of our newest school-based health center. Opened in the Fall of 2011, this academy gives middle school students a great opportunity to learn about the Life Sciences in ways that go well beyond a regular science class.
Students have a chance to do more with life sciences than ever before. Learning how to do DNA fingerprinting, find out how human organs work and what types of diseases effect us, and even do an internship with a doctor or scientist is just a small sample of the exciting things you can do at the Biomedical Academy. During the three years of the Biomedical Academy, students will take sciences classes that concentrate in Life Sciences, Biotechnology and Human Biology & Health.
Technology will be just as important when learning about advances in the life sciences. That is why we have brand new computer stations for students to use to help learn about these sciences. The classrooms also come equipped with electronic blackboards to get everyone in the class involved. Lots of other exciting technology will be used during labs and in class.
Carencro Middle School is also home to a unique health center. This gives students easy access to learn from medical professionals and this opportunity is only available at the Biomedical Academy.
This academy will provide a solid foundation for Lafayette students to assist them in the pursuit of a Health Learning Pathway from grades 6-12. The Thibodaux Career & Technical High School and the Lafayette High School Health Academy will be high school pathway programs available to these students in high school.
