The Engineering Academy at Northside High School exposes students to a variety of disciplines within the field of engineering.
The program offers an honors curriculum which touches on Drafting and Design, Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Electrical Engineering.
The Engineering Lab gives students instruction in Computer-Aided Drafting, Basic Electronics, Laser and Fiber Optics, Graphics and Animation, Digital Video Production, Navigation/GPS, Communication Systems and Construction Systems.
Students study Structural Systems, Electrical Systems, Pneumatics, Plastics, Design Procedures, Auto CAD, Computer Control Technology, Thermal Systems and Petroleum Engineering.
As Juniors, students are responsible for designing and building a robotic can-crusher. Their work is judged by working engineers in a formal presentation setting.
Seniors are responsible for designing and building a catapult. Again, the students are judged by professional engineers after making formal presentations of their work.
