The Academy of Health Careers at Lafayette High School offers students interested in a health career the opportunity to meet their goals in a rapidly changing professional world.
The program includes: partnerships with health care professional agencies; mentors and gest speakers to motivate and encourage students; a School-to-Career emphasis that allows students to see the relevance of school and the "real world" of health care; a team structure that assigns academy students to a team of academy teachers; and an integrated, focused curriculum to connect class with the industry.
The Academy is designed to allow students two options in training and study. The Health Sciences tract is for students hoping for a career that requires more than four years of post-secondary education, such as physician, nurse or physical therapist.
The Allied Health tract is for students seeking a career in the technical health areas, such as licensed practical nurse, laboratory technician or x-ray technician. In addition to learning about health careers, the students also receive instruction in entry-level skills, communication skills, organizational skills and professionalism.
