French Immersion is a program which begins in pre-kindergarten or kindergarten at various school campuses across the parish.
Children are taught all the core subjects, with the exception of English-Language Arts, in French. We start the immersion process at a young age, when children's minds are more open. They also are taught this second language at a time when they still are learning their first language.

The Arts Academy at L.J. Alleman Middle School is a special program that provides students with instruction in the arts before the school day begins.
There are special requirements to attend Alleman, including an audition process which determines whether a child is accepted or not. Because of this, the lottery process does not apply to Alleman.
For more information about Alleman, call the school at 984-7210.
This option allows students who are in the racial majority at their home zone school to attend a school in which they would be in the racial minority. In other words, a white child who is attending a school that is majority white could elect to transfer to a school which is majority black.
Transportation is provided for this transfer. The deadline to apply is the last working day in April each year.
For more information about the M-to-M transfers, call the school system's Child Welfare and Attendance Office at 236-6870.
