LJ Alleman Arts Academy prepares students for academic success enriched by the arts. The Arts Academy is designed to encourage artistic growth through structured study in music, drama, dance, and visual arts.
VISUAL ARTS
The visual arts department offers four levels of study. Students will develop design, style, and technique through experimentation with various media.
CHORUS
Chorus is the one musical category that uses the natual ability of a voice to express a piece of music. Four levels are offered, beginning to advanced - including a boy's chorus. Students learn music theory and rhythm reading, as well as mastery of singing skills, solf�ge, and two to four part singing.
PIANO
Students taking piano are taught in a lab setting. They focus on the development of their own individual playing technique, performance skills, and personal artistry.
STRINGS
Students in strings are assigned a cello, violin, or viola. They have opportunities to perform in ensembles and as soloists. This area also offers study in music history and theory.
GUITAR
Guitar students will learn all the basics of the instrument, and be capable of playing a variety of styles. In addition, they will learn about music history and theory.
BAND
Band is one of the options available for an Arts Academy elective. The students will develop musically on their instrument and have opportunities to particpate in festival events and honor bands, as well as annual concerts.
DANCE
Modern, ballet, folk dance, and jazz are studied in the dance curriculum. Dancers can develop over time from absolute beginners to advanced dancers. Advanced dancers are eligible to participate in the touring program.
THEATRE
Theatre students will participate in all aspects of theatre, including acting techniques, technical theatre, staging, and production.
Students who apply to LJ Alleman are required to audition. Audition packets are available at LJ Alleman, located at 600 Roselawn in Lafayette or you may download the audition packet here. (Adobe Acrobat Reader required to view.) You must bring the completed audition packet to your audition.
