schools of choice N.P. Moss - Application for IB Candidacy

INTERNATIONAL BACCALAUREATE

The Lafayette Parish School System  is currently seeking permission to implement International Baccalaureate programs at J.W. Faulk Elementary and N.P. Moss Middle Schools.

The International Baccalaureate program is an internationally respected curriculum designed to create life-long learners who are prepared to participate in a global community. The program has three curricula for children ages 3 to 12 (primary years), 11 to 16 (middle years) and 16 to 19 (diploma program).

All three IB programs:

  • Have a strong international dimension.
  • Draw on content from educational cultures around the world
  • Require study across a broad range of subjects
  • Include individual subjects and trans-disciplinary areas
  • Give special emphasis to learning languages
  • Focus on developing the skills of learning
  • Provide opportunities for individual and group projects
  • Encourage students to become responsible community members

The IB curriculums are constantly reviewed and researched, and seek to draw from all the best educational practices around the world.

More than 2,000 schools in 122 countries are IB World schools. High school graduates with an IB diploma are among the most sought-after students by the world's top universities.

NEXT STEPS

Lafayette Parish currently is working to train the teachers at Faulk and Moss in the IB program. The next step is to apply to the International Baccalaureate Organization, the IBO, for entry into the IB pilot program.

If our application is approved, out teachers will teach the IB curriculum for at least one year, with constant monitoring by the IBO. If the IBO feels our program meets its standards, we will be granted IB World School status. An important part of the process is community participation.

At this time we are not accepting applications for the 2010-2011 school year for the IB program at N.P. Moss Middle School. If you would like to be notified once we are taking applications, please download our interest form and return it to us either via email or the regular postal service.

Thanks for your interest in Schools of Choice.
